Barbara Gerber

Barbara is a counselling psychologist based in East London. At the heart of her therapeutic practice is the creation of a safe space and an honouring of each person’s
inherent wisdom and compassionate nature.

Barbara is one of the initial group of people to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in South Africa, introducing this together with Janine Kirby in their home town.

In 2017 she became one of the 3 teacher trainers on the Stellenbosch University/IMISA
2-year Certificate Programme in Mindfulness Based Interventions.

Barbara is the Supervision Lead for IMISA and has been instrumental in the training of
supervisors and the development of a professional framework for Mindfulness Based
Supervision (MBS).

Together with Linda Kantor, Barbara represents IMISA on the International Mindfulness
Integrity Network (IMI). This network is involved with the development of integrity
guidelines for teachers and teacher training in the field of Mindfulness Based
Programmes/Interventions.

Mindful movement is a passion of Barbara’s and in particular the calming and steadying
practice of Qigong. She is a qualified Qigong teacher and loves sharing the practice with
others.

Barbara is committed to the ongoing exploration of finding appropriate ways in which to
share the healing practice of mindfulness within Southern Africa.
